I host great events!

I love working with children aged 6–12. My sessions are high-energy, engaging, and interactive. I love getting kids excited about reading, writing and nature! I have over six years of experience working with children and running events in Finland. Find out more below about my school visits, and library and bookshop sessions!

Interactive Sessions

We learn about the setting through a quiz, pick Finnish names for our characters, and workshop a story set in the Arctic together.

Writing Workshops

We talk about our favourite books and characters, I introduce story structure, and then we develop a story set in the Arctic together.

Forest Diary

We create our own Forest Diaries and write and draw about nature, just like Lumi! This workshop can be done outside or inside.

Forest Diary Workshop

In my book, Lumi keeps a Forest Diary, in which she draws and writes what she experiences in nature. This is what we will do! I offer two different Forest Diary Workshops:

OUT IN NATURE: I take the class/group of children out into the forest or into a park, where we collect leaves, press flowers and draw and write what we see, hear and experience.

BRING THE FOREST IN: I can bring the forest into a classroom, library or bookshop. I have a huge basket filled with leaves, branches, moss and animal figurines and a speaker with nature sounds. This way, we can safely recreate the Forest Diary exercise inside.

Journey Across the Arctic – Story Workshop

An interactive session for larger events, classrooms, and school assemblies (Years 3–7) where we create our own adventure story set in Lapland.

In the first part of the workshop, we explore the book's setting with a quiz on Finnish culture, wildlife, and the Arctic.

In the second part, we create our own characters and workshop a story about their journey across Lapland. We choose Finnish names for our characters and act out the dangers one might encounter in a winter landscape.

By the end of the workshop, children will have explored their own creativity, discovered the world of Lumi and the Wolf, and hopefully be excited to read the book themselves!

My presentation includes video clips from my research trips to Lapland and many opportunities for children to ask questions.

Writing Workshops

In this interactive writing workshop, pupils will explore what makes a strong story and discover how writers use characters, story structure and emotion. Together, we will look at how our favourite stories are built and develop ideas as a group before workshopping our own adventure story set in the snowy wilderness of Lapland, inspired by Lumi and the Wolf.

The session includes:

  • Discussion of books pupils have read and enjoyed

  • What are protagonists and antagonists (heroes and villains)

  • How to build a strong story arc

  • An energetic, interactive activity in which we create our own adventure story across Lapland

Teachers, did you know I filmed my research? My videos are great for classroom use!

Info about school visits

assemblies

This year, my aim is to meet as many children as possible and get them excited about reading and my books!

I love delivering large, interactive school assemblies and have spoken to groups of up to 260 children at once. I'm happy to run multiple sessions throughout the day (I've previously done up to four!) to reach as many pupils as possible. My sessions work best for Years 3 – 7. I'm also happy to visit two nearby schools on the same day, depending on timings and travel arrangements.

Book Sales

Where possible, I'd love schools to collaborate with a local independent bookshop to arrange book sales ahead of my visit. Schools can email parents in advance with a pre-order link organised with the bookshop, giving families the opportunity to purchase a copy for me to sign on the day. After my session, I’ll then meet those kids and sign and dedicate their books for them.
